Mahi Madness in Lucaya with Bost Lures
The plan and target were Yellowfin Tuna. Hundreds of pounds of bait chunked and ready. Alas, mother nature would not cooperate. We left Harbour Town Marina in Dania Beach at 8 am and crossed to Bimini in 3-5 foot seas with occasional 6 foot swells. We were on a 32' Cape Horn which performed flawlessly. This is a solid seaworthy boat in this class. Ride and fish ability very comparable to Contender and Seavee. After arriving in Bimini the plan was to head to the Gingerbreads for some snapper and grouper. Plan A was easily accomplished. Unfortunately, the wind picked up even more. The...
Bost Lures in Marsh Harbor Bahamas, Hole in the Wall
My phone rang March 15th, it was Captain Todd Smith. Capt. Todd runs a 42' Invincible tender and was currently in Marsh Harbor. He said the following week he needed to run the boat back to Miami and wanted me to fly in and keep him company on the long run back. We would have about a 3 hour window to fish Hole in the Wall before needing to finish the run to Miami. He would look at the forecast a few days out and let me know. On March 22nd the phone rang and he said grab a flight...
Key Largo Mahi Fishing aboard Superdolph
We headed out of key largo at 8:00 am looking for dolphin. As soon as we crossed the edge we got into scattered weeds but didn't put the lines in till we found a weed line in 300 feet of water. Conditions looked perfect but we didn't get any action so we moved out looking for the next line. Every half mile or so there was another line but still no bites. I did notice that the moon was up and bright so possibly that slowed the action. Sure enough, by mid day we started hearing reports of fish getting...
Team Gulf Money Fishing Report
Our team left out of Dauphin Island, Al on our 21 Contender powered by a 250 Yamaha. Our targeted species' included vermillion snapper, king mackerel, and amberjack. We planned on catching our snapper in the morning and troll for some King and AJ in the evening. The winds were 10-12 mph with seas at 2-3 every 8 seconds. Not terrible conditions. We limited out on our snapper fairly quick so on to trolling. Unfortunately we had no luck with the amberjack but the king bite was on fire. We were trolling adult blue runners one on flat line and one...
Yellowfin Tuna Fishing in the Bahamas
Yellowfin Tuna Fishing in the Bahamas It's been a long year waiting for our first Yellowfin trip of the season. Plan was to round up pilchards in the am in the Haulover area and purchase any shortfall from the bait boats. Finding bait was a little tough but we managed about 8-9 dozen and added another 300-400 baits from the bait boat plus 2 dozen goggle eyes. Off we went on the 34 Seavee with twin 350 Yamahas and the crossing was very smooth. A quick check in at Bimini Big Game and we were off to the channel. It...
